Essential Functions:
I. Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Collaborate with the Superintendent and district leadership to develop and maintain the District Technology Plan.
- Lead & manage IT strategic and operational planning to achieve educational goals by fostering innovation and coordinating the evaluation of future systems.
- Provide information to assist with the development of the annual budget, as well as, assessing risks associated with IT investments and projects.
- Serve as the district’s E-Rate coordinator; manage vendor bidding and compliance to maximize federal and state funding streams for network maintenance.
- Research, select and procure all necessary items including hardware, software, subscriptions, and supply items.
II. Infrastructure, Systems & Telecommunications
- Ensure robust cybersecurity measures, data privacy, and disaster recovery/backup procedures are strictly maintained.
- Oversee the district’s wired/wireless network infrastructure, servers, and firewalls to ensure continuous service delivery and adherence to applicable laws and regulations such as FERPA.
- Maintain and Manage FreePBX phone system, Synergy SIS, Google Domain, Clever Single Sign-on, and on premises Active Directory.
- System integration of instructional materials and platforms not included with other methods.
- Oversee the Eagle Eye Cloud VMS (IP cameras) and collaborate with the Facilities Director on building infrastructure intersections (cabling, power).
- Maintain MDM software (e.g., for iOS/MacOS) to push apps, policies, and updates to staff and student devices.
III. New Mexico State Reporting & Data Privacy
- Act as the lead for all data submissions via New Mexico NOVA ensuring student, staff, and course data is validated and submitted within state windows.
- Regularly audit SIS data for accuracy to ensure appropriate state reporting through Nova.
- Disseminate "Tech Tips" and low-cost phishing awareness to staff to maintain security without a dedicated training budget.
IV. Instructional Support & Operations
- Provide training for educators on effectively integrating technology (e.g., Google Workspace, Digital Curriculum, Application Platforms, etc.) into classroom instruction.
- Recruit, develop, and supervise the technology team, establishing efficient help desk workflows.
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all hardware/software throughout the lifecycle, make recommendations for refresh disposition as needed, and provide hardware disposition lists before disposal.
- Record and Live-stream school board meetings and post links, docs, minutes and other necessary information on the district website and for archival web dissemination.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Educational Technology, or a closely related field.
- At least 3 years of experience managing an IT operation, preferably in an educational environment.
- Deep understanding of network infrastructure, cybersecurity, and educational software/single sign-on platforms (e.g., Clever, Google Workspace, Synergy).
- Demonstrated understanding of state specific regulations, data privacy, and NMPED reporting requirements, such as CIPA, FERPA, and COPPA.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Technology Management, Education Administration, or related field.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Google Certified Administrator, or NM Administrative Licensure).
- NM Administrative License or equivalent
Essential Skills
- Exceptional ability to communicate technical ideas in "user-friendly" language to all staff members, including “non-technical” staff and the Board of Education.
- Demonstrated capacity to critically assess and resolve a wide variety of technical issues, effectively managing everything from high-level network outages and SIS data challenges to direct end-user support in a fast-paced educational environment.
- High adaptability to rapidly shifting technological landscapes and educational needs, with a desire to continue learning about a wide range of topics from Cybersecurity to EdTech best practices.
