JOB TITLE: Elementary Teacher
SUMMARY OF POSITION/PURPOSE: To help students reach maximum cognitive, affective, psychomotor development; and goal-setting development and to help each student demonstrate competencies as defined by local, state and national statements of student outcomes, specifically the New Mexico Content Standards and Benchmarks.
SUPERVISOR: Elementary School Principal/Head Teacher
SUPERVISES: Instructional Assistants and assigned volunteers
EDUCATION REQUIRED/PREFERRED: Required: Bachelor's degree
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED Preferred: At least three year's teaching in position
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Valid New Mexico Public Education Elementary Teaching License with endorsement in appropriate content area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and provides individualized and/or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Evaluates pupil's academic growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares timely progress reports, and report cards.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils with physical, social, and academic needs.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, and bulletin boards.
- Maintains professional competence through educational activities, workshops, university credit courses.
- Participates in the selection and requisitions books, instructional materials, and supplies maintains required inventory records.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned during the work day.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
- Participates in faculty committees as assigned.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Integrates the use of educational technology into instructional program as appropriate.

EVALUATION PERFORMED BY: Elementary School Principal/Head Teacher or Designee
Socorro Consolidated Schools provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
