JOB TITLE:

Technologist 

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION/PURPOSE:

A technologist provides the first level support for school site personnel by identifying and resolving technology issues (including, but not limited to, troubleshooting hardware and software problems, and maintaining the district’s equipment). Technologists also assist teachers, staff and students in learning and applying technology in the curriculum and embracing new skills and technologies.

Technologists attend required meetings and trainings, and provide site-based tech support and coaching as part of managing assigned work orders. Technologists also follow directions given by the Director of Technology for providing necessary support and assistance in departmental operations.

EDUCATION REQUIRED/PREFERRED:

Required: High School diploma
Preferred: Associate degree in technology

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED:

Preferred:  Familiarity with computers (hardware and/or software)

Preferred:  Previous customer service experience

Preferred:  Previous teaching or classroom aide experience

 

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:

Have a current New Mexico driver's license to drive District vehicles

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Respond to e-mails, phone calls, emergencies and assigned work orders
  2. Promptly complete work orders and the associated reports
  3. Attend meetings and training to keep abreast of district programs and procedures
  4. Provide first line technology support for school sites
  5. Assist the other Technologists and the Director of Technology  in providing instructional support for teachers
  6. Report site needs, concerns and successes involving technology
  7. Learn about new and innovative technology products and programs
  8. Advise users about Technology policies, procedures, and practices
  9. Participate on technology committees for the District and school sites
  10. Assist school sites in the preparation and administration of computerized short-cycle assessments and student development programs
  11. Assist in resolving network, hardware and software problems as directed
  12. Assist in keeping the computer labs functioning
  13. Assist in the maintenance and upgrading of district network, hardware and software
  14. Keep vehicles used by the Technology Department free of debris and clutter
  15. Maintain accurate attendance records and report absences promptly
  16. Always present users with a pleasant and courteous attitude
  17. Maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times
  18. Submit to periodic evaluations of performance
  19. Perform other activities assigned at the discretion of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and Director of Technology.

  8. Ability to coach users in effective uses of instructional technology.
  9. Strong desire to be part of a team.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  1.  Occasional light carrying of equipment up to 50 pounds
  2.  Prolonged sitting at a computer terminal with typing
  3.  Travel to different schools in the district
  4.  Occasional installation of telephones, cabling and wires
  5.  Occasional work on weekends or at night to complete tasks at a minimum of interruption to administrative and teaching staff.
