SCSD Project Aware Mental Health Clinician
Project AWARE is a grant that was awarded to three school districts in New Mexico who evidenced a need for support with meeting mental health needs of students. In conjunction with the Project Director and Navigator, the Mental Health Clinician will provide direct therapeutic support to students and student families in order to address mental health needs and improve both mental health and educational outcomes.
Therapist Job Responsibilities:
- Establishes positive, trusting rapport with students and their families.
- Completes intake assessments with each referred student, assigning a diagnosis and recommending appropriate interventions.
- Creates individualized treatment plans in collaboration with students and their families.
- Meets with students regularly to provide counseling, treatment and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
- Conducts ongoing assessments of patient progress.
- Conducts risk assessments and builds safety plans to manage high risk behaviors across environments.
- Involves and advises family members when appropriate.
- Refers patients to outside specialists or agencies when necessary.
- Maintains thorough records of patient meetings and progress.
- Follows all safety protocols and maintains client confidentiality.
- Works with SCSD Administration and Project AWARE manager to build policy and procedure to support trauma-focused therapy provision to students.
- Conducts risk assessments and builds safety plans to reduce harm and support management of high risk behaviors.
- Works with Navigator to create a support plan for students and student families to maintain engagement and support between school years.
- Provides clinical services to students one day per week during summer break to ensure continuity of care.
- Collaborates as part of Project AWARE team to improve overall access to mental health and other supports in the Socorro community.
Schedule:
Clinician will follow the school calendar and the high school duty schedule. When school is not in session over the summer, the Clinician will be available one full day per week to provide continuity of care and maintain engagement and support for students.(Summer work will be paid on a timesheet at the Clinician's daily rate).
Therapist Qualifications/Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Ability to build rapport quickly
- Detail oriented
- Ability to communicate with compassion and empathy
- Strong ability to manage time and prioritize tasks
- Training and experience providing therapy to children and youth using a trauma-focused modality.
- Training and experience conducting risk assessments and building safety plans to address self-harm and suicidal ideation.
- Training and experience providing postvention and crisis response to individuals and/or groups.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
- Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field
- Current with all state licensing requirements, including LPCC, LCSW and LMFT
- Minimum of 2 years clinical experience providing trauma-focused therapy to children and youth
