SUMMARY OF POSITION/PURPOSE:
Socorro High School is located in Central New Mexico.  We are seeking an individual with strong educational leadership skills, supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student

All staff assigned to high school

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Master's Degree

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1.  Five years teaching experience
2.  Administrative experience 

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
New Mexico Public Education Department Administrative License

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.  The High School principal facilitates the planning and development of curriculum and instructional goals for school staff and students.
a.  Establishes realistic expectations for student and staff performance and communicates these effectively.
b.  Analyzes students and staff and needs cooperatively and recommends changes for instructional improvement.
c.  Assigns tasks and utilizes the resources necessary to implement the plans for instructional improvement.
d.  Effectively communicates about matters of curriculum and instruction.

2.  The High School principal monitors and facilitates the progress of programs toward established goals.
a.  Collects and utilizes information concerning the student and community;
1)  Standardized test scores
2)  Absentee rates

3) Graduation rates
4)  Community needs assessment
5)  Building budgets

b.  Monitors progress toward achievement of curriculum objectives;

     1) Instructional Leadership in the implementation of the NM CCSS
     1) Informal classroom visitations
     2) Checks progress reports
     3) Conducts informal teacher conferences

3.  Provides constructive and continuous feedback of progress to staff and others.
a.  The High School principal uses supervision, staff development and performance evaluation to improve the instructional process of the school.
b. Follows procedures consistent with the state and local Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan in identifying effective performance.

4. The High School principal manages the resources of the school including personnel, finances, and facilities.
a. Organizes and schedules activities to provide maximum instructional time.
b. Strives to minimize the number of distractions from and interruptions of instructional time.
c. Strives to minimize teachers’ non-instructional administrative duties to provide for the maximum instructional benefit.
d. Delegates appropriate non-instructional administrative duties.
e. Identifies required maintenance, repair, and acquisition of facilities and equipment necessary to the instructional program.
f. Assures that money received is accounted.
g. Inventories prescribed by state laws/regulations and local board policies are maintained for each school and district.
h. Ensures facilities are kept clean, safe, attractive, and in good repair. .
i. Consults with staff about purchasing and using equipment and supplies.

5. The High School principal establishes and maintains an environment conductive to learning.
a. Sets up reasonable student discipline procedures.
b. Makes recommendations which provide opportunities for the achievement of each student’s academic potential.
c. Organizes programs and procedures directed toward students’ needs in the area of extra-curricular activities.
d. Initiates school procedures dealing with non-school personnel and non-school entities.
e. Organizes and implements handbook for building personnel.

6.The High School principal communicates accurately and effectively to keep staff and community informed of all pertinent information.

7. The High School principal adheres to State Standard of Excellence.
a. Carries out federal, state, and local policies as delegated by the superintendent.
b. Makes recommendations for employment and assignment of personnel.
c. Accounts for all district properties assigned to the principal’s jurisdiction.
d. Monitors students’ levels of achievement.
e. Assures that equipment and supplies are appropriate, available, safe and in sufficient quantity, operable, and safe.
f.  Reviews and utilizes results of standardized tests.
g. Retains information required by the local district which is consistent with the Student Rights Act.
h. Provides for membership accounting in accordance with State Department of Education guidelines.

7.  Assists the Activities Director in the overall supervision of athletic and extracurricular events.

8.  Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
