JOB TITLE:  NMPreK Early Childhood Teacher

SUMMARY OF POSITION/PURPOSE:
To help students reach maximum cognitive, affective, psychomotor development; and goal-setting development and to help each student demonstrate competencies as defined by local, state and national statements of student outcomes, specifically the New Mexico Content Standards and Benchmarks.

Elementary School Principal

SUPERVISES:
Instructional Assistants and assigned volunteers

EDUCATION REQUIRED/PREFERRED:
Required: Bachelor's degree

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED;
Preferred:  At least three year's teaching in position

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
Valid New Mexico Public Education Elementary Teaching License with endorsement in appropriate content area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
  2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  3. Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and provides individualized and/or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil based on New Mexico PreK standards. 
  4. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  5. Evaluates pupil's academic growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares timely progress reports, and report cards.
  6. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils with physical, social, and academic needs.
  7. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, and bulletin boards.
  8. Maintains professional competence through educational activities, workshops, university credit courses.
  9. Participates in the selection and requisitions books, instructional materials, and supplies maintains required inventory records.
  10. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned during the work day.
  11. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
  12. Participates in faculty committees as assigned.
  13. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  14. Integrates the use of educational technology into instructional program as appropriate.
